Costa Rica

A rugged and rain forested Central American nation with coastlines on the Caribbean and the Pacific, Costa Rica has a population of almost 5 million people. Its prime industries are tourism, financial outsourcing, pharmaceutical, software development, and of course, agriculture. It is known for its reputation as one of the most stable and progressive nations in Latin America, and as a friendly and peaceful nation. Costa Rica is a top eco-tourism destination that receives around 2.4 million tourists every year.

The country has JCI-accredited hospitals as well as many private clinics, where its medical tourism sector continues to grow at an annual rate of 15% to 20%. They mostly offer specialized procedures in cosmetic surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, and dentistry. Costa Rica’s health system ranks higher than the US and is almost half the cost.

It provides universal healthcare to its citizens and legal residents via its public healthcare system. Also, it is known for its constant upgrading to its private and public healthcare systems, as the United Nations has ranked them as the best in Latin America. They are known as a nation with a very high competitive level, with advances and developments in infrastructure and technology, and with macroeconomic stability, which makes them a strong candidate for medical tourism visits

Known initially for its excellent dental surgery services, medical tourism in Costa Rica has spread to a variety of other medical procedures, including:

  • General and cosmetic dentistry
  • Cosmetic surgery
  • Aesthetic procedures (botox, skin resurfacing etc)
  • Bariatric and Laparoscopic surgery
  • Orthopedic surgery
  • Fertility treatments
  • Addiction treatment
